Finding An Emergency Locksmith

in Home    (submitted 2011-11-14)

The key to locating an emergency locksmith lies in preparation and forward thinking. It goes without saying that nobody wants to spend time searching for a lock specialist when an emergency strikes, and by taking the time to find your man (or woman) ahead of time, you’ll be doing yourself and your stress levels quite a favor if an emergency locksmith does need to come out and rescue you. In this article, we will walk you through a few tips to help you avoid the need for one of these specialists while helping you find your match before the need ever becomes apparent.

Step 1 – Always have an extra set of keys handy. Most hardware, dry cleaner and luggage repair shops offer key replication services at only a dollar or so a key. Simply head on in with keys in hand and ask for an extra set. You can make as many as you like!

Step 2 – Once you have a set of spares, be sure to get them in the hands of a trusted friend or family member who lives in the area. Being forced to get in touch with a friendly face will be much nicer and less expensive than having to call an emergency locksmith in the middle of the night. Though, if you’re stuck up a creek without a paddle (sans spare keys), you’ll need to bite the bullet and contact a locksmith. Be sure to choose one that is located close to you, as some services may charge for travel expenses to get to and from the work site.

Step 4 – Call up your local real estate agent and see who they’ve used in the past. Real estate agents deal with a number of home improvement specialists and should be able to point you in the direction of someone whom they’ve had a good experience with.

Step 4 – If you have internet access (assuming you’re not locked from your home), hop online and browse the internet for professionals in your area. These days, there are a variety of online resources that include user submitted reviews and ratings designed to help consumers locate reputable services. Browse these sites and check out professionals who have been recommended, while keeping an eye out for services that you may not have heard of. If you’re locked out of your vehicle roadside, be sure to call up roadside assistance. The operator will be able to contact a locksmith who has performed quality work in the past and direct them to your location. If you happen to see a gas station in the distance, head on over and ask for assistance.

Step 5 – Once you’re in the presence of your emergency locksmith, ask them for an estimate that includes any labor and replacement parts before to agreeing to service. You’ll also want to inquire as to whether any additional fees will be charged. Some services may charge extra for excessive travel or for coming out late in the evening.

Step 6 – Make sure that your service is properly insured to protect you against any possible damage against your property.
